I found the trailhead for this run at the crossroads of Starhill and Native Sons (001), deep inside the El Corte de Madera Creek Preserve.
Heading in I went left at the North Leaf junction (002) to get on the El Corte de Madera Creek. Following this trail for a short distance I embarked on Resolution (004) where I discovered a majestic strand of old growth redwoods and the remains of the infamous plane wreck this trail was named for.
At Fir (005) is where things got interesting. It was a good decision I made when starting this run to go in this direction. Fir is steep and long!! Had I gone the other way I would have been forced to run up it! One day when I feel up to the challenge I'll give it a shot. I'd like to compare times too. So, back to the run. At Methuselah (006) I take a right and run downhill a little more to get to Giant Salamander (007). This can be challenging as it has a section of steep uphill just before you reach the Timberview junction (008). I like this spot for fueling up before heading off to finish this trek.
Further down Timberview I find the entry to Virginia Mill (009). Judging from the condition of this trail I figure that it is rarely used. I understood why when I found that there was no bridge to cross when I met up with the Creek itself. Getting my feet wet was invigorating and helped me at this stage of the run. The trail system here is also a bit overgrown with high grass and other various weeds that exude some very nice floral aromas. I follow Virginia Mill for quite a while, mostly uphill, before running in to the South Leaf union (011). There are two other intersections along the way that lead out to Starhill (012, 013). I kept my direction on South Leaf and join with Methuselah again (014). Just up the way is the trail out to the crossroads and the end of the run.
The other way next time! Yeah, right.
