The 2,042-acre La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve offers visitors spectacular views towards the coast from open grassland hilltops. This remote preserve is an ideal spot for a picnic getaway. Bring a book, because you will want to relax in the meadow after lunch! Because of its remoteness and undisturbed plant communities, the preserve supports a variety of wildlife.
Hiking trails are limited to the ranch roads located on the property at the time of purchase by the District. From the I0-vehicle parking area located in the interior of the preserve, follow the paved driveway into the preserve. A building compound is located in the center of the developed part of the preserve. This area is closed to the public. The surrounding trails are open.
** A special permit is required to access this preserve. For a permit or more information on this and other preserves, please call the Open Space District Office at (650) 691-1200.
Highlands Don't be fooled by this one. Highlands starts out as an untroublesome and vivid run. But in the end it's up Steam Donkey, an arduous and intricate track that shoots directly uphill.
This is more of a sights and sounds video I shot while running Highlands in La Honda Creek. Behold a massive old-growth redwood, and take a gander at some extensive storm damage in El Corte de Madera Creek.
