Saratoga Gap has 617 acres, largely wooded with Douglas fir forest, along with grassy hills scattered with large oaks and madrones. Attractive lichen-covered boulders and sandstone rock outcrops add to the scenic value of this area. Sempervirens Fund helped to secure the initial gift of land which formed the nucleus of this preserve.
The Saratoga Gap intersection serves as a trailhead for trails leading to Sanborn-Skyline County Park, Castle Rock State Park, Big Basin State Park, Upper Stevens Creek County Park, and Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. The 7.6-mile Saratoga Gap-Page Mill Road trail begins on this preserve at a hiking stile and split rail fence on the northeast corner of the Highway 9/Highway 35 intersection. A 9-mile loop is possible through Long Ridge Open Space Preserve.
Directions:
For Long Ridge Open Space Preserve, parking is available at the Upper Stevens Creek County Park-Grizzly Flat parking area on Skyline Boulevard, about 3 miles north of Saratoga Gap (Hwys. 9 and 35). Parking for both preserves is available in the parking area at the intersection of Highway 9 and Skyline Boulevard. Saratoga Gap Open Space Preserve is located at the northern corner of this junction.
